Cooling Effect of Water Channel with Vortex Generators on In-Wheel Driving Motors in Electric Vehicles

Designing an effective cooling system for high-power-density in-wheel motors of electric vehicles is required to avoid the irreversible demagnetization permanent magnet due a rise in its temperature. In this study, water-cooling channel was used between stator and housing evaluate performance 25 kW motor utilizing commercially available software Ansys Fluent 19.2. Initially, channels with single or pair vortex generators have been varying heights pressure drop evaluation considering allowable 0.7 bar water pump. The results indicates that both satisfy limit at height 4 3 mm, respectively, performances two were evaluated these heights. It has found enhanced by 4.1% 6.5% using generators, compared without generator. Furthermore, ram air effect on under high-speed conditions, temperature decreased about 2.1 °C be 148.8 magnet.
